An old-world neighborhood rarity in East Village serving classic Italian eats in traditional digs. A favorite of J Colby Smith.
Open since 1908, walking into Johns of 12th Street will feel like you’re on set with The Sopranos. The classic neighborhood standby – from it’s worn tile floors, red leather booths and old wax candles – looks as if it hasn’t changed a bit since day one. The exceptionally friendly waiters will serve your red sauce style eats with a smile. The dishes are mostly Sunday family dinner style. Think spaghetti topped with hearty meatballs, homemade lasagne, Parmigiana and seafood marinara. But you’ll be surprised to find a full vegan menu on offer as well! This spot is perfect to bring the parents and grandparents.
