A gorgeous and somewhat upmarket cafe in a historic century-old pharmacy in Carroll Gardens, serving great coffee, sandwiches and baked goods. A favorite of Emily Elsen from Four & Twenty Blackbirds.
For some seriously good coffee and baked goods, Smith Canteen is a great place to stop if you’re wandering around Court of Smith Streets in beautiful Carroll Gardens. Relax with a coffee and a delicious ‘locavore’ sandwiches in the rustic wood-paneled setting. The decor has remnants of the old pharmacy – including wood shelves and trim, tin ceiling and tile floors. The coffee and espresso is sourced from Counter Culture and dispensed from a marble bar. Pastries, like whole-wheat croissants with spinach filling, start the day. By lunch, there are sandwiches like duck confit banh mi, salads and items like a sweet pea quiche. The vibe is chill with some easy-to-love indie-electro tunes. With a bunch of great free mags to read, it’s your perfect spot to hang solo.
